Trump says he is "very disappointed" with Elon Musk and accuses him of being "hostile."

"Elon and I had an excellent relationship. I don't know if we'll continue to have it," the US president warned.

It didn't take even a week for the relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump to publicly explode. If on Tuesday it was the world's richest man who attacked the Republican administration, calling its tax reform proposal a "repugnant abomination," today it was the US president's turn.

During an Oval Office appearance, Trump accused Musk of being "hostile" and said he was "very disappointed" in the magnate, whom he appointed to lead the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

"This isn't the first time... people have left my administration, and some have even become hostile . They leave, and when they wake up in the morning, the glamour is gone, the whole world is different, and they become hostile," the American president said.

"Elon and I had an excellent relationship. I don't know if we'll continue to have it. I was surprised," the current White House resident acknowledged. " I'm very disappointed in Elon . I helped him a lot," he added.

During his remarks, Trump claimed that Musk knew the details of the tax reform better than anyone else, something the billionaire owner was quick to respond to on social media. "False! This bill was never shown to me once and was passed in the middle of the night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it."

Musk has begun reflecting on his profile of X old posts from Trump in which he argues that "no member of Congress should be eligible for reelection if our country's budget is not balanced."

On the other hand, he has published a survey asking whether it is time to " create a new political party in the United States that truly represents the 80% center."

Just six days ago, Trump had high praise for Musk during the tech entrepreneur's farewell to his government post. At the ceremony, he declared that the Tesla and SpaceX owner "is one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced."

"I just want to say that Elon has worked tirelessly , helping to lead the most radical and far-reaching government reform program in generations," he said.

As a result of today's dispute, Tesla shares plummeted 9% on Wall Street.
